Psalm 150 (NLT)
1 Praise the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heaven!
2 Praise him for his mighty works; praise his unequaled greatness!
3 Praise him with a blast of the ram’s horn; praise him with the lyre and harp!
4 Praise him with the tambourine and dancing; praise him with strings and flutes!
5 Praise him with a clash of cymbals; praise him with loud clanging cymbals.
6 Let everything that breathes sing praises to the Lord!
PS 150 was established in January 2010 by Randall and Annie Kalama to be a “beach head” into China Town. “Beach head” is a military term meaning to occupy or control a plot of ground in hostile enemy territory, for the purpose of landing allied forces to do battle with the enemy.
Members from Hope Chapel Honolulu, New Hope Windward, One Love Ministry, YWAM, Salvation Army, New Life Church, Calvary Chapel, New Hope Town, and a plethora of other churches and para church organizations are currently doing ministry through PS150 on the streets of China Town. PS 150 is a place where members of the body of Christ come together to share God’s love and the gospel of his grace with neighboring businesses, residents, and the homeless through ongoing relationships, filling of immediate needs, Bible studies, praise and worship, community prayer walks, movie nights, monthly health screenings, bi-annual baptisms, and other special holiday events.
In August 2013, we expanded God’s territory in a new location. Fort Lauderdale, FL. You may see how God is moving and changing lives there by visiting their Facebook page; PS150 Fort Lauderdale.
In September 2013, PS 150 expanded its outreach by partnering with Surlester McBride, his wife Hiromi, and a Micronesian pastor to begin the Kakaako Park Ministry, where people of Micronesian descent are reached with the gospel, relationships were further developed by purchasing Christmas gifts for approx. 50 Micronesian keikis and distributed on Christmas Eve. A shave ice truck was leased by PS 150 and free shaved ice was given out that day to everyone. Sunday school and Bible studies for the Micronesian keikis and adults are conducted every Sunday. Scripture memorization is made fun through games and stories.
In December 2013, an advance party went to Hilo to “scope out” the needs there. Jess Houle moved to Hilo from Oahu and has started a small group/Bible study in the park for the homeless.
Moving forward, representatives from PS150 will be meeting with HMSA personnel to see how we can join forces and bring doctors down to PS 150 (once or twice a month) and make sure that they can be paid for their time. We have also begun meeting with Senator Suzanne Chun Oakland (homeless assistance work group), to try and address many housing related issues. Bills are currently on the floors of the House and Senate addressing those issues. Plots of land are currently being sought out by the State to build affordable housing for the homeless.
